Contributing to cancer research
The SCAN-B initiative has the longtime goal to improve health care for future breast cancer patients. The aim is to develop and implement new methods to tailor treatment and diagnostics to better suit each individual.
A network between cancer care and research has been created to be able to include 'all' new patients with primary breast cancer. Patient inclusion and sample collection is part of the day-to-day practice at every participating hospital. Tissue samples as well as blood samples are collected for analysis.
Thanks to participating patients the research is made possible.
SCAN-B is run by researchers at the Department of Oncology, Lund University, together with breast oncologists at Skåne University Hospital and the South Swedish breast cancer group. SCAN-B is made possible due to generous donations from Berta Kamprad foundation and other grant providers.
